American Water
American Water is a supplier of drinking water and wastewater services to more than 14 million people.
It was announced last week that hackers had breached their computer networks and systems.
It has forced the shutdown of its customer portal and temporarily suspended billing services.
American Water is the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States. It has operations across the country, including here in Missouri. Here locally, American Water Works services in Platte County.
It is unknown at this time what information was possibly breached.
MC2 Data
MC2 Data, which runs popular background check sites such as PrivateRecords.net and PeopleSearchUSA, collects and compiles information from various public sources for use by employers, landlords and others.
MC2 Data had left a database containing 2.2TB of personal data unprotected and easily accessible to anyone on the internet. This data leak exposed the personal information of over 100 million Americans.
Information exposed include names, emails, IP addresses, DOB, addresses, phone numbers, employment and legal histories, and payment details.
Johnson & Wales
Johnson & Wales University experienced a data breach due to a cyberattack.
On August 21, 2024, JWU confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed its network on July 11, 2024 Information that may have compromised include names, SSN, and financial account info. This breach affected approximately 22,000 people.
Letters to those affected were sent out on September 19th.
Johnson & Wales is a university located in Providence, New Hampshire. It has satellite locations in Miami, Denver, and Charlotte.
