McShane & Brady Investigating Southern Company Data Breach

McShane & Brady, LLC is investigating a data breach from Southern Company, an Atlanta-based energy holding company that provides electric and natural gas service to millions of customers in six states through its subsidiaries.

Southern Company discovered that an unauthorized third party had accessed information about the utility accounts of certain customers of its subsidiaries—namely, Georgia Power, Alabama Power and Mississippi Power.

Personal information that may have been disclosed in this breach included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, the last four digits of Social Security numbers and other account information.

It is estimated that this breach has affected 400,000 customers.
