8 Million Patient Records Compromised
A database containing approximately 2.7 million patient profiles and 8.8 million appointment records has been exposed online. The database included names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, chart IDs, and billing information,
According to the HIPAA Journal, while the owner of the database has not been confirmed, the researchers found references to a digital marketing and web development company called Gargle, which a Utah-based company that builds websites and offers marketing tools for dental practices.
Alera Group
Alera Group is a national insurance and financial services firm that provides services such as employee benefits, property and casualty insurance, retirement plan services, and wealth management.
According to a release from Alter Group, “On April 28, 2025, Alera Group confirmed that personal information may have been removed from its network as the result of unauthorized access to the Alera Group technology environment that occurred between July 19, 2024 and August 4, 2024.”
The release also states, “The types of impacted information varies by individual and could have included: name, address, demographic information, date of birth, birth/marriage certificate, Social Security number, driver’s license, financial account or credit card information, Passport, other government-issued identification, medical information, Medical Record Number, insurance or claims data (potentially including health insurance information and Medicare/Medicaid ID), electronic/digital signature, biometric information, and username and password information.”
Asheville Eye Associates
North Carolina eye care center Asheville Eye Associates is notifying approximately 147,000 individuals that their personal information was stolen in a November 2024 data breach.
On November 18, a hacker gained access to its network and exfiltrated certain files from its systems.
The investigation was conducted and it was determined that personal information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, treatment details, and health insurance information was stolen in the attack.
