Injured In An ATV Accident?

It is important to remember that the average ATV isn’t made for more than one rider, and it’s made to be driven a certain way for safety.  However, people tend to want to “get the ATV experience” and operate them in ways not designed to do.  People will drive them recklessly, inappropriately, or with passengers on back and that the ATV is not equipped to handle.  In these cases, it’s more likely that drivers and passengers may be injured.  Some of the most common injuries with ATV’s are:

Concussions- These are very common in ATV accidents.  A helmet needs to be worn at all times.

Broken bones- Riders and passengers are thrown off the ATV and hit the ground at tremendous rates of speed or the ATV lands on top of them.  Breaks can be as simple as a hairline fracture or as complex and a compound fracture requiring surgery and rehabilitation.

Spinal cord injuries- ATV’s can roll over, crushing someone underneath it.   The driver or passengers then face injuries lasting a lifetime.

Internal injuries-  Falling of a moving ATV or being underneath it can also cause injuries that are not visible.  Internal bleeding or broken ribs are just some of the internal injuries suffered from an ATV accident.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 1,697 people were killed as a result from ATV accidents.  For the complete report, visit their website https://www.cpsc.gov
