Oregon Based Health System Notifies Patients of Unauthorized Access of Medical Records

Asante, an Oregon-based health system as notified patients that a doctor gained unauthorized access to patients records.  The doctor had no treatment relationship with these patients, according to a March 8, 2023 article in the HIPAA Journal.

The access has occurred over a period of 9 years, starting in 2014.  The information accessed included, names, treatment information and demographic information.

According to the HHS’ Office for Civil Rights website,  the doctor accessed over 8800 patients records without authorization.
