PHI Health
PHI Health is a California based regional healthcare network with three hospitals, outpatient medical offices, a medical (physician) group, home healthcare services and hospice care, as well other health services.
On December 1, PHI was made aware they were the victim of a cyberattack. Cybercriminals claim they stole 17 million patient records.
The hackers sent a demand letter saying, “If you’re not going to cooperate and make a deal, then all your confidential files will be published on the internet,” according to the report.
PHI Health serves more than 3 million residents in Los Angeles and Orange counties and throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology Associates
Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology Associates has experienced a cyberattack that involved unauthorized access to the protected health information of more than 366,000 patients.
Based in Littleton, CO, Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology began sending out data breach notices in November to those affected.
The affected files contained patient data such as names, addresses, dates of birth, patient account numbers, medical record numbers, Social Security numbers, health insurance identification numbers, and health information such as diagnoses and treatment information.
Ascension
In May 2024, Ascension Health was the victim of a cyberattack. It was originally reported to affect 500 people, which is a common practice while an investigation is determining exactly how many were actually affected.
On or around December 19, 2024, the OCR data breach portal was updated and Ascension Health’s 500 estimate was changed to 5,599,699 records.
This is the third largest healthcare data breach of 2024.
McShane & Brady has filed suit in this case. If you or someone you know receives a notification letter about this data breach and would like additional information about your legal rights, you can contact McShane & Brady at 816-888-8010.
