Powerschool
PowerSchool is a cloud-based student information system that helps schools manage student information and improve operations. It also provides tools for parents to access their child’s school information.
Local school districts such as North Kansas City and Liberty School District use Powerschool. In all, over 60 million students across the United States use this service.
In late December 2024, an unidentified threat actor used stolen credentials to access its PowerSchool Student Information System platform. Information accessed in this attack included names, and postal addresses, and in some districts, the threat actors also obtained Social Security numbers (SSN), personally identifiable information (PII), medical information, and grades.
Mc&B has filed a class action lawsuit in this case. If you receive notification of this breach, please call us at 816-888-8010.
Allegheny Health
Allegheny Health Network, a Pittsburgh-based 14-hospital academic medical system, has announced a significant data breach involving unauthorized access to patient data.
A third-party firm contracted to host, manage, and secure certain computer systems was hacked on October 11, 2024. A review of the affected systems confirmed they contained names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, health insurance information, and treatment information such as diagnoses, provider information, treatments/procedures, dates of service, prescription information, and medical device serial numbers.
Approximately 293,900 home care patients who received Allegheny Home Medical Equipment and Home Infusion therapy services were affected.
Notification letter are being sent to those who have been affected by this breach.
Change Healthcare
More than 190 million Americans had their personal and healthcare data stolen in the Change Healthcare ransomware attack, nearly doubling the previously disclosed figure.
Stolen data includes patients’ health insurance information, medical records, billing and payment information, and sensitive personal information, such as phone numbers, addresses, Social Security Numbers and government ID numbers.
This breach was first reported last year but the number of those affected by this breach continues to escalate. It was originally reported to affect 100 million but that number has now increased.
Mc&B has filed a class action lawsuit in this case. If you receive notification of this breach, please call us at 816-888-8010.
